Continental Tire forecasts global retread growth

Jason Cannon December 26, 2012

Continental Tire the America’s Commercial Vehicle Tire Business – finishing out 2012 with significant growth in the Americas retreading market – unit detailed some of its plans for expansion of the ContiLifeCycle retreading solution in the region.

Executive Vice President Paul Williams said the ContiLifeCycle concept continued to experience high growth in the region throughout 2012, with more planned throughout 2013.

“(In response to demand) we have added 18,000 square feet to our tread manufacturing plant in Mexico in June,” he told the Commercial Carrier Journal. “The addition of a complete new line of equipment including a new double press, extruder and finishing will be complete in first quarter 2013.”

The new press also allows Continental Tire to begin production of ContiTreads for ‘super singles’ including its HDL2 Eco Plus drive and HTL1 trailer tire.

“Following this expansion, we are forecasting to produce over 300,000 flat treads in 2013 and that we can successfully meet the demand of the entire Americas region for ContiTreads for the next five years,” Williams added.
