Successful Dealer has begun its annual countdown of the Top 10 stories from 2013.
The selection of articles were based on the number of people who read them, and ranked accordingly. So, you may not see them as the most “newsworthy” in the traditional sense. They aren’t necessarily the “biggest” stories, but they are the most read by the Successful Dealer audience.
It’s been an interesting 2013 in trucking, and I’ve enjoyed putting headlines in your email inbox every weekday.
Not to steal some thunder from our Top 10 countdown, but I’d like to share some of my favorite articles from 2013.
I’m a longtime NASCAR fan, and when the roads to racing and trucking intersect, I really enjoy it.
This year, it happened several times.
In May, Allstate Peterbilt Group announced it would supply Richard Petty Motorsports with Peterbilt 389 tractors for the organization’s Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series teams. The trucks hauled race cars and equipment for the No. 9 and No. 43 NASCAR Sprint Cup teams of Marcos Ambrose and Aric Almirola and the No. 43 NASCAR Nationwide team of Michael Annett.
In September, The Pete Store, a Peterbilt dealer group with nine full-service locations from Delaware to Georgia, announced it would serve as primary sponsor for driver Josh Wise’s No. 35 Front Row Motorsports car in the Federated Auto Parts 400 at Richmond International Raceway.
In February, three-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion Tony Stewart added Rush Truck Centers as a primary car sponsor for three races – Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Calif., April 7 at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway and April 27 at Richmond (Va.) International Raceway. While the Rush-sponsored car never found its way to Victory Lane, Stewart got plenty of television exposure in his Rush firesuit when he went after Joey Logano on pitroad.

A story I wrote in October about Ron Donze, who has won Freightliner’s top sales recognition award every year since its inception, is near the top of my personal list of favorites. Donze was a lot of fun to talk to and I also enjoyed swapping emails with some of his family.
In 2013, Successful Dealer launched a new industry award, which honored the nation’s “top” dealer. Anytime you start something new you can’t be sure how it will be received, but all of the nominees were an absolute pleasure to work with, and it was my honor to be able to meet and recognize David Thompson and his team from TEC Equipment with the Successful Dealer Award.
