Later this summer, Doonan Truck & Equipment will open a new dealership in Hays, Kansas.

“There’s currently not a Pete dealer on the interstate from Kansas City to Denver,” Dealer principal Kenny Doonan says.

The company is currently pouring concrete on a five acre site for a new 28,000 square feet facility, which will include 2,500 square feet parts warehouse with a Hanel parts retrieval system.

“You just dial in the part on the computer and it will bring the tray around that the part is on for us to pick it,” Doonan says of increasing efficiency in his parts department. “We think (the facility) is going to be state of the art.”

The building will feature heated floors, an air conditioned shop with overhead crane, a customer service area, oil change pit, wash rack and customer waiting lounge.

Once open, the Hays facility – which will be Doonan’s third – will have 10 service bays, and feature only parts and service initially, but Doonan has built in sales offices for future expansion. It will employ 15 people, eight of which will be technicians.

The facility is expected to open Sept. 15 and operate six days per week; 8 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and , 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. Saturday.
