Freightliner dealer granted additional Pennsylvania territory

Jason Cannon August 11, 2013

Sherwood Freightliner, Sterling, Western Star has been granted franchise rights to open a new full service facility in Hazelton, Penn.

The company currently has locations in Scranton and Tunkhannock, Penn.

The third location will be nearly 40 miles from its Scranton headquarters and give the dealership 1,250 feet of frontage on bustling Interstate 80.

“I spent a lot of time driving up and down looking for the right spot,” says Sherwood Vice President and General Manager Mark Novitch. “If you don’t have the right location, it just won’t work.”

Novitch says he was drawn to the location for its access to Interstates 80 and 81, reaping the benefits of westbound traffic headed to New York and metro-New Jersey. Access to New England-bound traffic was also a draw.

Novitch says he expects permitting to be complete within the next 90 days and site work to soon follow. He hopes to begin construction of Sherwood Freightliner Branch Three by March 2014.

The new location will feature parts, service and new and used sales for Daimler subsidiary trucks. The company’s other two locations also serve as Isuzu dealerships, and Novitch says that possibility remained at the third store if it fit within Isuzu’s existing footprint in the area.
