Drew Linn, president at Southland International Trucks, Inc., was named the 2013 ATD Truck Dealer of the Year award Saturday during the ATD Convention & Expo in Orlando, Fla.
Southland International Trucks is based in Birmingham, Ala. and has six locations, each servicing International and IC Buses.
“I’d like to thank the nominating committee and the judges for this award,” says Linn. “I’d [also] like to thank those 200 people in Alabama for doing the job day-to-day, and doing the right thing for our team. I thank them, and I thank you, too.”
“I spend more and more of my time coaching all these people, because the team’s getting bigger,” Linn said prior to the award presentation Saturday. “I love the interaction with customers, but I love even more the interaction with the people [with whom I work]. The older I get, the more gratifying it is to see them become successful.”
Linn is the 19th winner of the ATD award. Steve Bacalis, president and CEO of Tom Nehl Truck Company, in Lake City, Fla., was named the finalist and runner up.
Dealers are nominated and selected for the award based on the following categories: excellence in business practices, industry leadership and contributions, community leadership and contributions.
Linn began his career with International Harvester, now known as Navistar, in 1965. As a member and former chairman of the Alabama Trucking Association, Linn worked to expand member services for dealers throughout the state. He was instrumental in establishing one of the first truck driving schools in Alabama along with an accompanying technical training institute. Linn has had a distinguished career recognized with more than a dozen corporate and industry awards, including a previous nomination for ADT’s Truck Dealer of the Year (2006), International Circle of Excellence, International Dealer of the Year (2008) and H. Chester Webb Distinguished Service Award (2009).
