Navistar recalling certain ProStars, TranStars

Jason Cannon June 17, 2013

Navistar says it plans to recall more than 9,500 ProStar and TranStar trucks over problems with the S-cam tubes on steer-axle brake assemblies made by Meritor.

In a letter from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the agency says the trucks were made from August 2011 through July 2012 and sold in the United States, Canada and into export markets.

R.L. Van Laar, Navistar’s compliance manager, says in a letter that the brake S-cam tube bracket assemblies on steer axles could show fractures between the wing bracket and the tube steel when mounted to stamped brake spiders, the foundation for brake assemblies.

Navistar said it will notify truck owners via mail no later than Aug. 23.
