Thermo King Produces 100,000th TriPac Auxiliary Power Unit

Denise Rondini November 13, 2012

Thermo King is celebrating the production of its 100,000th TriPac auxiliary power unit (APU) in its Hastings, Neb., manufacturing plant.

The TriPac APU provides heating and cooling without idling the tractor engine. This unit increases sustainability and keeps drivers comfortable and productive while delivering significant fuel savings, the company says. This solution, which Thermo King first introduced in 2005, also helps ensure anti-idling compliance. Because the tractor engine isn’t running, users can greatly increase maintenance intervals, saving time and money.

The TriPac unit supplies heating, air conditioning and hotel power. This solution also charges and maintains the tractor batteries. The TriPac provides engine coolant warming to the main tractor engine to ease engine start in cold ambient conditions, the company says.
