Trailer orders down, cancellations moot

Jason Cannon April 25, 2013

Net trailer orders for March were down 6 percent month over month and 12 percent year over year, according to an ACT Research Co report published in the latest State of the Industry: U.S. Trailers.

“Although orders are down, the orders being placed appear genuine, as cancellation activity has been negligible for most trailer categories,” Frank Maly, Director-CV Transportation with ACT Research, says. “Better economic growth, and the resulting gains in freight, should result in improved order volumes as the year progresses,” he added.

Maly says backlogs decreased 4 percent in March, while inventories were up less than 2 percent.
