Jason Cannon May 8, 2013

Certain Volvo and Mack trucks are being recalled over concerns with the units brakes.

Volvo Trucks North America says it will recall 2011-2013 model 701 VHD and VNL trucks manufactured Dec. 13, 2010, through July 17, 2012.

Mack is following suit and recalling 2011-2013 model 331 CXU trucks manufactured Nov. 23, 2010, through March 19, 2012.

These trucks come equipped with an MGM Type 24 J-series piston parking brake chamber, which according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration bulletin, may leak pressure, allowing the parking brake to drag when it is disengaged and lead to overheated brake components or fire.

Both Mack and Volvo will notify owners and will be replace the chambers as needed at no cost. The safety recall is expected to begin on or before June 17. Owners may contact Volvo at 1-336-393-2000 with the recall number RVXX1302.

Mack owners may call 1-336-393-2000 with recall number SC0369.
