Well here we are: 2014. Is your business ready to start another calendar year?
Successful Dealer is ready to roll.
But before we completely turn the page on 2013, I wanted to single out a few articles posted on Successful Dealer this year that I really enjoyed.
The first story I wanted to highlight was the recently selected as our top viewed article of the year: a February story I wrote on an IRS Federal Excise Tax ruling.
This story exploded when it was posted back in February, and the interest was sustained for more than a week. Federal Excise Tax isn’t going anywhere, but because of its ubiquitous positioning in dealer businesses, when it is altered it becomes a big deal.
Another story I really enjoyed was something I wrote almost a year ago, a Successful Dealer weekly feature providing tips for selling fleets on your service programs.
Any good dealership should always be working to sell its fleet customers on the benefits of using its service department. And with multiple stories coming out during the year that more fleets are showing a willingness to outsource maintenance, I was glad we were able to address the topic so substantially at the start of the year.
And finally, another great story from Successful Dealer was the profile our Online Editor Jason Cannon wrote about David Thompson, founder, owner and CEO at TEC Equipment. Thompson was named the winner of our first annual Successful Dealer Award at the Great American Trucking Show in Dallas in August.
Jason’s story was an excellent read, highlighting Thompson’s career and the rise of TEC Equipment’s operation on the West Coast. TEC Equipment is one of the largest Volvo and Mack dealer networks in the United States, with more than two dozen locations from northwestern Washington to San Diego.
