Stoops Freightliner-Quality Trailer has signed a dealer agreement with NGV Motori USA, LLC, an OEM in the aftermarket conversion kit and engine markets with headquarters in Reggio, Italy.

NGV has been a leader in the prototype, production, and supply of conversion kits for after-market engines having done more than 250,000 conversions in over 25 countries around the world.  The current NGV Motori selection of Kits and engines are available in both diesel to CNG for dedicated packages, and for gasoline to CNG for dedicated, dual fuel and bi-fuel packages.

With NGV Motori, Stoops will prototype and sell EPA approved conversion packages, installing CNG re-powered engines and high pressure fueling tanks, along with providing CNG powered engines and supplying CNG parts to consumers across the nation.

The one thing that is constant with the trucking industry is change,” Mike Comer, Manager of Heavy Duty Equipment Sales at Stoops says. “At Stoops Freightliner we are always looking for opportunities to support our customers changing requirements. With the advent of our agreement with NGV Motori this supplies us with another tool to assist our customers in ‘Going Green.'”

Comer adds NGV currently has six conversion kits fully certified to EPA standards.

Conversions performed by Stoops would take place at their Indianpolis location, where the company has already completed the conversion of shop space to all for two pull-though bays and an additional 4000 square feet for CNG products.

“The next step is to reach out to local customer, get some real life feet on the ground so we can get this product out there,” Comer says, adding that Stoops’ natural gas program has “took off like a rocket in the past 12 months.”

Stoops’ John Johnson says dual fuel conversion can be installed in 8-12 manhours, which includes adapting the engine platform and installing high pressure system and tanks. A dedicated CNG engine conversion can take upwards of 22 hours, which includes changing out the ignition system.

Johnson said the company has scheduled in-house training this month. Two techs will be trained initially, along with Stoops trainer. Going forwad the company will rely on the trainer to train its own people.

Since its founding in 1988, Stoops Freightliner- Quality Trailer has become on of the largest Freightliner dealerships in North America, with six locations in Indiana and Ohio.
