Charlotte, N.C.-based McMahon Truck Group (MTG) has purchased Columbus Truck and Equipment Company and Marietta Mack, the largest Mack and Volvo truck dealer in Ohio, from Ray Mason III.

The Ohio dealership group also represents Hino and Jerr-Dan towing equipment, which MTG co-owner Brad McMahon says made the opportunity an even more attractive venture.

“We had actually been looking to get into the Hino business for a number of years in some of their vacant territories,” he says. “This was just a really great fit, and a good way to start that relationship with Hino.”

McMahon says his family and the Mason family had known each other for a number of years, and that familiarity – and the familiarity of the market demographics – sealed the deal.

“Columbus is the size and shape we like and are targeting,” he says. “It’s a medium size market with north and south interstates, and a lot of our customers run the triangle from Charlotte, to Nashville, to Columbus. It just made a lot of sense. (Columbus) itself is a great truck town. Distribution is big there. Logistics is big there. The demographics really just stood out.”

McMahon Truck Group, a family-owned group of dealerships and transportation related businesses with eight locations in five states, carries product brands such as Mack Trucks, Volvo Trucks, Hino Trucks, Jerr-Dan Equipment, and XL Specialized Trailers.

The company’s Charlotte dealership is the largest Mack dealer in the Carolinas and the company also includes a leasing operation.
