Rush Enterprises rang in the new year with a honed in focus on the used truck market, and opened its Rig Tough Used Truck sales location in Knoxville, Tenn.

Plans for the rest of the year call for the company to add “a couple more,” Rusty Rush, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of Rush Enterprises, Inc., says.

“It’s a start of something as we continue to look at a few things on the drawing board,” Rush says of the plans to develop satellite used truck operations.

Rush says the Rig Tough Used Truck sales location gives the company an additional sales outlet to reach customers in markets not currently served by Rush Truck Centers, “and will supplement used truck sales at our Rush Truck Center locations,” he adds. “It will be particularly focused on value driven trucks and be another outlet to sell fleet trucks taken in on trade.”

The dealerships are expected to serve as a support component to Rush Enterprises’ Navistar Division, among others, as fleets turnover used equipment for new trucks.

“We’re preparing ourselves as Navistar comes back,” he says. “They tend to sell to more larger fleets, more over the road businesses. (And the dealerships would serve as) dispersal of that product in territories where I don’t have franchises.”

The dealership borrows its name from the company’s all makes Rig Tough Truck Parts and accessories.

“We used the Rig Tough brand name for this sales group as it is the company’s proprietary in-house value brand,” Rush says.
